Annual Events

The Marathon County Historical Society hosts several events each year.  Whether our events are educational or just for fun, the Marathon County Historical Society's annual events support important programs that enable the us bring our history alive.

In addition to these events, we also offer several lectures and programs through our History Speaks lecture series.  You can find a list of all upcoming events in our Calendar of Events section, or become a member to receive a copy of our newletter with a list of all upcoming events.

  • February - Victorian Valentines Tea
    Member Discount Applies
    Reserve a table and enjoy an afternoon of tea and treats for you and your friends.   
  • May - Preservation Month
    Open to the public - donations suggested for tours
    Each May the Historical Society holds several events in support of Perservation Month including guided walking tours of Wausau's historic districts. 
  • A Slice of Marathon County
    Open to the public - donations suggested for tours
    Each fall, we select a different piece of Marathon County's history and present a fun and education event through reenactors and storytelling.   
  • December - Members Only Reception
    Free Members Only Event
    This highly attended Members Only event is a great time for our members to socialize with the board, staff and other members. Enjoy refreshments and hors d'oeuvres in a great historic setting. 
  • Members Only Exhibit Openings
    Free Members Only Event
    Members are invited to a private opening of all of our exhibits. The evening includes refreshments, hors d'oeuvres and guided tours of the exhibit.
